Joint Mission Begins: Launching Integrated Emergency Response for Displaced Population In Sokoto!
We are thrilled to announce the official launch of a collaborative project between COOPI and Life Helpers! Together, we kick-started a 12-month supported pilot initiative, graciously funded by the Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (USAID), to address the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina State.
The primary objective of this momentous launch was to introduce our support program for IDPs in Sokoto State. Our mission is clear – to provide immediate assistance to affected individuals, facilitate their resettlement, and support their long-term recovery and rehabilitation.
The launch event witnessed an illustrious gathering, graced by the presence of the esteemed Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, His Excellency Idris Muhammad Gobir, representing Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto. Distinguished representatives from various CSOs, INGOs, media, community leaders, local government officials, and permanent secretaries from ministries like Women’s Affairs, Budget and Economic Planning, Water Resources, along with implementing LGAs, Goronyo, and Rabah, reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to assisting Sokoto State in overcoming the housing crisis.
A brief overview of the project was presented during the event by the National Executive Director of Life Helpers, Mr. Tayo Fatinikun. He passionately highlighted the project’s crucial areas, encompassing the protection of displaced persons, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), health, nutrition, and cash transfer. To ensure effective implementation, we are forging strong collaborations with esteemed government agencies like the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Health, Justice, Legal Aid, and the Ministry of Water Resources.
We were deeply honored by the appreciation and support extended by Alhaji Kabiru Chi Gari, representing the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar. The Sultanate Council expressed its readiness to contribute to the resounding success of this noble initiative.
The State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning’s Permanent Secretary, Usman Arzika Bodinga, echoed their steadfast commitment to the development of Sokoto State, acknowledging the severity of poverty and the urgent need to address the IDP crisis.
In his closing remarks, His Excellency Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir made a heartfelt call to international aid organizations operating in Sokoto State. He emphasized the paramount importance of sustainable assistance to effectively address the housing crisis and enhance the overall well-being of the affected communities.
