Accelerated Basic Education Programme Launched in Tambuwal, Sokoto State

The Accelerated Basic Education Programme was officially launched on 21 April 2026 at the Makarantar Malam Bala Liman Salah Centre in Tambuwal LGA, Sokoto State.
The event was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, representing the Honourable Commissioner, and brought together government officials, education stakeholders, community leaders, facilitators, learners, development partners and the media.
The Permanent Secretary commended the European Union and UNICEF for their support and praised Life Helpers Initiative for its technical support and the distribution of teaching and learning materials, emphasising that ABEP gives a second chance to thousands of children denied education by poverty, displacement or cultural barriers. The UNICEF desk officer noted that ABEP "is about building a future for Sokoto State," and community leaders pledged their full support.
The flag-off marked the start of learning in all 35 ABEP centres, with a symbolic distribution of learning materials to the first cohort of learners.
