Food Security

Climate-smart farming, livestock support, and market access for smallholder and peasant farmers.

For beneficiaries who are largely peasant and smallholder farmers, LHI's agriculture and food security component focuses on production, diversification, value addition, and market linkages to enhance livelihoods.

Smallholder Farmer Extension: climate-smart agronomic practices, drought-resistant certified seed distribution, and modern planting techniques.

Livestock & Small Ruminant Husbandry: distribution and veterinary support for goats and sheep to diversify household income.

Market Access & Producer Groups: aggregate marketing, post-harvest loss reduction, and sustainable commercial value chain linkages.

Resilience Building and Smallholder Farmers Support Project in Northwest Nigeria

Sokoto (Kware & Wamakko LGAs) and Katsina (Batagarawa & Katsina LGAs)

A multidimensional approach to the interconnected challenges facing smallholder farmers: farmer-led irrigation development (FLID), access to farming inputs and market systems, community-managed assets and non-farm income streams, with a phased exit strategy that leaves community-owned systems behind. Two farmers service hubs, Noma Tushen Arziki in Wamakko and Gidan Arziki in Batagarawa (commissioned 27 April 2026), now run as community enterprise centres.
