Finding Purpose at 70: Arajana Suleiman

LHI Communications 14 May 2026 1 min read

At 70 years old, Arajana Suleiman, a mother of eight from Batagarawa community, never expected to regain a strong sense of purpose. Through the community agricultural centre implemented by the World Food Programme and Life Helpers Initiative, she has found renewed meaning in daily life.

"Coming here every morning gives me hope and makes me feel healthy."

Insecurity had limited her access to her farmland, but the centre provided a safe environment where she can work, earn an income, learn new skills and connect with others.

Before joining, Arajana struggled with stress and high blood pressure. She now reports improved wellbeing, supported by a consistent routine and social engagement.

"Being around people every morning and having something to look forward to makes me happy."

Labour-saving equipment has also transformed production, reducing time and effort.

"Before, the process was very tedious. Now with the machine, we finish in minutes."
