Opening Doors to Learning for Displaced and Out-of-School Children in Sokoto

LHI Communications 12 January 2026 1 min read

In 2025, Life Helpers Initiative strengthened access to education for out-of-school and displaced children across Sokoto State, with focused support in Goronyo IDP Camp and surrounding communities.

Through the establishment and support of Non-Formal Learning Centres, children who had missed years of schooling were given a second chance to learn in safe and supportive environments. More than one thousand children gained foundational literacy, numeracy and essential life skills.

With trained facilitators, community structures and government partners, many learners successfully transitioned into formal Junior Secondary Schools. Education-in-emergencies interventions also protected children from learning disruption during displacement and instability.
