OVERVIEW OF BUREAU FOR HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE (BHA) PROJECT

The BHA Project is a consortium-based initiative comprising IRC (International Rescue Committee), LHI (Life Helpers Initiative), COOPI (Cooperazione Internazionale), ALIMA (Alliance for International Medical Action), and GISCOR (Grassroots Initiative for Strengthening Community Resilience), with IRC as the lead organization.

The project is titled:
“Integrated Emergency Response to the Displaced Population in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States, Northwest Nigeria.”

Implementation Locations

• Katsina State: IRC and ALIMA are jointly implementing.
• Zamfara State: IRC is the sole implementer.
• Sokoto State: LHI, COOPI, and GISCOR are responsible for implementation.

Thematic Focus Areas
The project addresses five key sectors: Health, Nutrition, Protection, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and Multipurpose Cash Assistance

LHI's Contributions in Sokoto
LHI focuses on Health and Nutrition, working tirelessly to bring relief, reach humanity, and put smiles on faces.

Health Sector
LHI addresses four critical health sub-sectors:

1. Essential Health Care Services
2. Health System Strengthening
3. Higher-Level Care
4. Pharmaceutical Services

Nutrition Sector
In the nutrition sector, LHI undertakes the following interventions:

1. Treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) Without Complications
2. Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)
3. Active Case Finding and Referral
4. Community Nutrition Activities
5. Tom Brown Programming (nutrient-dense food intervention)
6. Food Demonstration Sessions

This collective effort is geared towards improving the well-being of vulnerable populations and ensuring sustainable impact in the affected regions.
