In early 2024, the remote community of Katsalabata in Borno State faced significant challenges due to limited access to water, making farming and food production nearly impossible. With food insecurity rising, residents had few means to sustain their families or generate income.
Through the support of ZOA and Life Helpers Initiative (LHI), community members received hands on agricultural training, essential farming tools, and improved seeds to establish communal kitchen gardens and small scale commercial plots.
This timely intervention has brought lasting change. Today, the once barren land now thrives with fresh produce including cabbage, lettuce, and onions. Families are now able to feed themselves with nutritious food, and many have gone a step further by selling surplus harvests in nearby markets, turning gardening into a reliable source of income.
Beyond improving food security, the project has strengthened community cohesion, built resilience, and restored a sense of pride and hope.
“We are now preparing early for the next planting season we feel stronger, more confident, and
hopeful,” shared a community member.
This transformation was made possible by the continued support of our donors. On behalf of the people of Katsalabata, thank you for planting
the seeds of change.
