Ubaida Dahiru’s life in the Goronyo IDP Camp has been anything but easy. A mother of seven, she’s faced more than her fair share of challenges. Tragically, she lost four of her children to illness, leaving her heartbroken and struggling to care for those who remained.

In February, things took a turn for the worse when Ubaida developed a severe skin infection for her and her three children. Living in the camp meant limited access to medical care, and she had no money for treatment after prioritizing her children’s health. However, amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged in the form of the LHI (Life Helpers Initiative) BHA Project. Recognizing Ubaida’s dire situation, they took swift action. They arranged for her to receive treatment at Amanawa Skin Hospital on February 21st, 2024, covering all the expenses.

But their support didn’t stop there. Knowing the importance of continued care, LHI sent a dedicated health worker to accompany Ubaida throughout her treatment journey. This ensured she received the attention and support she needed every step of the way.

Ubaida, in her words, said,

LHI BHA Project, a gabanta ta taimaka min, gaskiya, afkakin da ya shafi min ya zama a duniya. Tsare-tsauren da ta kai min ne a yanzu. Thanks to the intervention of the LHI BHA Project, my health began to improve steadily. The infection that had plagued us was finally under control.

Ubaida is immensely grateful for the support she received from LHI. Their assistance not only alleviated her physical suffering but also brought a ray of hope into her life. She hopes that LHI can continue to assist others like her, bringing light into the lives of those facing adversity, especially in the IDP camps in Sokoto.
