Celebrating Children’s Day with a Spelling Bee and Debate Competition!
The Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board, with support from UNICEF Sokoto Field Office and Life Helpers Initiative, organized an LGA-level spelling bee and debate competition for selected primary and junior school students under the UNICEF Reach Project. This event took place in the LGAs of Binji, Bodinga, Dange Shuni, and Sokoto North to commemorate Children’s Day which was on May 27th. Winners in each local government represented their LGAs at the finals.
Theme: “Protecting the Nigerian Child from the Dangers of Online Technology”
The event featured special guests, including representatives from DSM SUBEB, Female Education Board Hilwa, UNICEF, Government Girls Day Secondary School Runji Sambo, and the Honorable Commissioners for MoWCA and Basic and Secondary Education. Awards, including laptops and books, were given to the top three winners, and cultural performances highlighted Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.
