PROJECT OVERVIEW.
Accelerating the control of the HIV Epidemic (cluster 3) is a USAID-sponsored project implemented simultaneously in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States. Health System Consult (HSCL) and Project Hope implement it as a consortium. HSLC as the lead consortium works majorly at the facility level while PROJECT HOPE implements in the community subgrant to Life Helpers Initiative (LHI), and Save the Child Initiative (STCI) as community-based organizations, working in the community.
The major goal of the project is known as 95-95-95. This means that 95% of the total population must know their HIV status, 95% of all positive clients must be linked to care, and 95% of those linked to care must attain viral load suppression.
LHI is presently working in 10 LGAs of Sokoto State; these include Sokoto South, Dange, Bodinga, Tureta, Rabah, Yabo, Shagari, Tambuwal, Binji, and Kebbe. A total of 40 Community Case Workers (CCWs) and 6 Cluster Leads) all residents in these LGAs were selected and trained to achieve these noble targets.
LHI is deploying different strategies such as case finding through community outreach, tracking of ART clients who interrupted treatment at health facilities, strengthening networking and linkage systems through leveraging on HUB and Spoke sites facilities, and mobilizing ART clients for viral load suppression. Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) drugs are being issued to eligible clients to curtail the spread of HIV among the general population and PMTCT.
