Life Helpers Initiatives with Financial and Technical Support of The PLAN International ASPIRE Project is a five-year (Dec 2021- March 2027) focused on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR) project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and individual Canadian donors, with the ultimate outcome of improving the realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), including vulnerable populations, in Bauchi and Sokoto states. The project aims to reach 877,868 direct beneficiaries, of which 732,784 are AGYW, aged 10-14, 15-19, and 20-24 in 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Bauchi and 23 LGAs in Sokoto state but as LHI we are implementing in 11 L.G.As of; Dange, Tureta, Yabo, Shagari, Kware, Bodinga, Sokoto-South, Sokoto-North, Rabah, Isa and Sabon-birni.

Plan International is working on the ASPIRE project to build the capacity of community and facility-based health, education, and protection service providers and decision-makers to deliver SRH and protection services, including adolescent Mental Health (MH), and accountability mechanisms to sustain GAR&I, SRHR, and protection policy and service delivery in Sokoto and Bauchi State.

Amongst many of the structures created by the project and worked with some existing ones they include;

  • COC: Champions of Change for Boys and Girls
  • 100-women groups
  • Fathers club forum
  • School Heath clubs for in-school adolescent
  • IPT-G: Inter-personal Therapy for groups
  • Intergeneration dialogue facilitators who go for House-to-House visits
  • VSLA groups: Village Saving Loan Association

All these groups were trained and retrained to build their capacity to work effectively and impactfully to achieve the project's overall goal.

Life Helpers, in partnership with UNICEF, is launching the Reaching and Empowering Adolescent Girls (REACH) project in Northwest Nigeria. The project aims to support 650 out-of-school adolescent girls and survivors of violence in Binji Local Government Area.

Through the REACH project, beneficiaries will receive:

  • Case management services to address their specific needs
  • Vocational skills training in master crafts to promote self-sufficiency

The project prioritizes the safety, dignity, and rights of vulnerable populations in crisis-affected areas. Its objectives include:

  • Strengthening protection mechanisms
  • Providing access to essential services
  • Empowering communities

Life Helpers Initiative is leading the implementation of the REACH project, ensuring that adolescent girls in Northwest Nigeria receive the support they need to thrive.
